Kapeka

Kapeka - Fashioned by Nature

Kapeka tells the story of natural growth seen in rivers, trees and families. It is the interconnected shape of branches in their many forms. Central to every Kapeka garment is a reflection of processes in nature and how these shape land and its people. Kapeka looks to nature in its design and nature in its fibres and is your way to be Fashioned by Nature.

Kapeka stems from a heritage of pioneering New Zealand natural fibres and knitwear.

Founded by Peter Hanson in 2000, when an opportunity was seen to bring together the excellence of New Zealand manufacturing, its natural fibres and experienced design. Kapeka focusses on luxury knitwear with unique blends that harness the fibres, innovations, skills and stories of New Zealand. Our heritage is championed through the manufacturing, designs and colours of every Kapeka garment.

Decades of Expertise

We have been crafting New Zealand made luxury knitwear for over 22 years. Our head designer, Bridget Morgan has thorough knowledge on procurement of fine, low micron, quality fibre, the blending of fibres to make it superior and the design to ensure unique, elegant style with a comfortable fit, all of which is sustainably sourced and made.

Craftsmanship

Kapeka is not your ordinary knitwear brand. We partner with New Zealand’s most experienced knitwear artisans and designers to craft knitwear that is not only luxurious but will stand the test of time. Each garment is trialled for durability and consistency giving the customer a garment that will last. All our garments are pill-resistant, pre-shrunk and hand-finished. Kapeka is proud of its Fernmark certification. An endorsement by the New Zealand Government, a mark of trust that communicates a product's country of origin and connection to New Zealand.

Natural & Sustainable

Sustainable natural fibres have always been at the heart of Kapeka, well before their wider benefits became globally appreciated. The merino wool used in Kapeka is carbon negative (uses CO2 ). Possums harvested for the fibre blend cause damage to ecology and biodiversity. The use of their fibre in Kapeka blends, protects New Zealand’s native forests and the carbon negative benefits they create.

We focus on ethically blending natural, sustainable fibres to craft our garments. We consciously source our fibres from traceable sources that boast quality and sustainable efforts. Packaging is minimal and manufacturing is local to reduce our impact on Earth.

Natural fibres are technical and smart – providing natural antibacterial, antiodour,fire-resistant and UV protection properties. Healthy for the wearer, healthy for the environment.

No other New Zealand made knitwear brand has a range comparable to Kapeka. Kapeka encompasses 5 ranges from Merino, Merinosilk, Alpaca, Mahana Cashmere and Cervelt available in a wide range of natural and fashion colours. We also continue to research and develop new blends the world has never seen before. Kapeka’s range spans traditional knits to fine, modern soft pieces for woman, men and children.
